Are there any Allied units and where. I would like to start a US unit and want some input from you. My first choice is the Marines as I already have the impression. First in and last ones out. Semper Fi!!

I`m not sure if there are any formed WW1 airsoft units yet as this is all a bit experimental to see if there is any interest I believe. So there`s nothing to stop you forming a unit.

Well Chum looks like this Yank will form the Marines! 49th Company 5th Marines, and I have a machine gun section to go with it. Right now I have four M1917 watercooled 30 cal.s. By next spring I will have a Lewis gun and a Chau Chat. All my Vickers needs is a waterjacket.

Sounds like 6 MGs for 5 people? I wont see the difference with modern airsoft then. It's all good, but you see my point: at next event we may have 5 americans vs 5 germans where americans all armed with light MGs. Rifles, rifles, rifles, rifles first... then a couple of pistols. and THEN MGs... Heavy tripod-mounted first and THEN, maybe, light MGs, SMGs etc otherwise its just an regular airsoft

ulrich I think you are miss reading it. These MG's are just for show. When it comes to plinking in the trenches most of us want to protray the average soldier. Read some of the posts in the Armory, they are talking about making or getting our standard bolt action rifles. If we all wanted MG's we would not be doing the Great War.

I say we all get a 77th infantry Division group going.

That's up to you and the area you live in. As we don't know where you are at (you have not posted anything in the introduction section yet). My suggestion is if you are the only one in your area you may go and start the unit. Others coming on board would chose your unit, so be the first in your area. If a unit is established in your area it is wise to start out there first. As our group grows than you may still consider breaking away from that unit to start your own. First RESEARCH!!! that unit and know as much as you can about it, weather you start it or not.

Well, the 77th division was the one featured in the 1919 film "The Lost Battalion" (It was remade by A&E in 2001) And I haven't had a chance to update my information yet, sorry. But I am doing my research and will soon put together a uniform (I have been collecting WWII exclusively till now)

I would also like to see a regular army group, but would prefer to do one that did more in the war (If you do 77th, you're limiting yourself to the last couple months of the war.) I say 2nd Infantry division, as they were one of the first American units to arrive, and the 5th Marine regiment (right now the only allied unit) was attached to them, so it would be reasonable to have us fighting with the marines.

I like your thinking. By doing an Army Corps impression you could do almost any division in that Corps and change it per event. Because there was no unit patchs until after the war the average Doughboy uniform would be the same through out.

Thanks, I was thinking a main impression of 28th (they're a blankfire group in my area) but we'll be able to change it depending on the event. Actually, maybe a main impression of the 2nd ID, although I do feel some loyalty to the 28th.

Nice thing about is you can do it. Even the Marines were wearing regular Army uniforms. Some Marines went and changed the buttons on the uniform tunics to USMC buttons. Very few did this and the brass EGA on the helmets. They did get to keep the Marine overseas cap (fore & aft) with the brass EGA on them, and that was the only ID on every Marine. But it shows that all the doughboys were to look the same thru out.
