Hello all, I'm new to these boards but am a recent transferee from the WWIIAA boards. Hopefully some of you will recognize me from over there.
Anyways, I was wondering if there was anyone in my general area looking to form a German unit. I live near Philadelphia PA but would be happy to form a group within the tri-state area as travel is no problem for me.
I would like to have this group do both airsoft and blankfire.
I have not decided what I would like to portray so I am open to suggestions if there are like-minded folk around me who have been itching to start a group.
If you live around me and want to get something together by all means PM me or e-mail me and I will be sure to get back to you as fast as I can.

Welcome aboard, PA is a good place to be located for WW1 reenactment as I'm sure you already know . You shouldn't have much trouble finding people who are interested in WW1 just have to sell 'em on airsoft.

Minenwerfer would be good too. That may even be my next project.

I was thinking more along the lines of general Infantry but that is indeed an interesting suggestion.

Nothing wrong with line Infantry. One of the reasons I went with the Storm Troop idea was besides the fact that I think it's cool they carried a minimum amount of gear in combat. One of the things I've heard alot is WW1 esp. German is expensive so, I figure less gear less $$.
With borrowing bits and, pieces from my WW2 gear and, a couple of "cheats" Swedish canteen, Hungarian gas mask etc. I've only spent $300 at the most.

yea like i said it's your choice what you make, but regular infantry is really expensive, not to mention lugging the 1895 fur pack around is like +70 pounds when fully loaded

Totez welcome, again. You live in the same state as the biggest blank burner WWI event twice a year! I think it's this weekend. We are looking for a centralized area easy for the majority of our guys to go to. With you coming on board that moves the site alittle more east. Can you make it to the Joliet area? that's southwest of Chicago.

That's a long haul but for a large game I could do it.

Now that I look into it a bit more, the time period when the Infantry had the lightest loadout seems to be around 1915. This would be easier to do for those new to the hobby and looks to be a good candidate. www.ir23.org/kit/2-westfront-1915.html#transitional

yea but 1915 would be a hard to use impression seing as everyone here does either german or american, early war isn't that popular, although i certainly wish it was

Trade the Pickelhaube for a Stahlhelm and, the gasmask bag for a canister and, you have a late war impression. Remember earlier model tunics where in use untill the end of the war. This is what we're going for in the 155th. only I wouldn't even bother with the bandolier from what I've read they usualy just carried ammo in there pockets. www.ir23.org/kit/4-sturm-1918.html

Well easy enough then to do both late and early and just wait for some Brits or Francs to sling plastic at ;p (Vive le Pickelhaube!)
