Good news for all us "Huns" well, if you wear a medium size hat anyway. New repro M18 helmet from Militaryharbor.com arrived today and, for the most part I'm pretty happy with it.
I'll start with the good, the shell is a size 64 and, just about good enough to pass for a repainted original. Even has some vertical "ripples" in the steel not as pronounced as on some originals I've seen but, nice realistic touch. It's made of very heavy gauge steel heavier than my original ET manufactured model but, dead even with my BF shell. ( lot more variation in WW1 German helmets than WW2).
The bad, Liner is usable but, not correct liner pads are made of pretty poor leather. Chinstrap is just weird not WW1 or WW2 type ( buckle would work very well for a canteen harness ;D) Also has WW2 type liner split pins.
On the shell the vent lugs don't have a washer on the inside not a big deal no one is going to see inside it on your head. The rim on the shell is well done only bad part is it has a slightly more prononced flair than most originals I've seen but, just a little. Paint is to dark for WW1.
All and, all a pretty good deal for $125 shipped hard to find an original shell to rebuild for that and, unless you are real picky this one is good to go right outta the box.
I'll try to post some pics. latter I'm having a hard time trying to figure it out on this forum ( that's a cry for help by the way).
