This is something we all need to discuss and agree on. My feeling is that high FPS is dangerous and we need to keep it down to a safe level. Because most of our engagements will be at a distance, between trenchs, that we should set it at 400 and no higher. The purpose for this is to prevent injury and I really would rather see it lower than that. If you look at what are major targets would be, the head!, it is worrysome. Granted we will all be wearing goggles and helmets but it's still a problem. To keep as much authenticity is hard when one is dealing with the prospect of possible injury. It's not practical to wear ones gas mask at all times but this would provide the greatest protection. So what is safe? I would want to see it at 350.

my original idea for this to have melee in the trenches, no not punching, my idea borrows from something my friend does called Dagorhir, in that the us pvc pipes wrapped in foam then tapped up, we could us this to make entrenching tools, bayonets and the like, then when in the trenches just use those when fighting in the trenches and close quarters

This is close in fighting where the guns would not be used. I think first we need to establish the parameters for the use of the guns. We can expand later with theatrics.

400 sounds good, HMG's should be lower because of the engagement distance will be only a few feet

Good idea! I like the sound of that. The MG's I make only shoot about 265 to 285.

On the idea of FPS, I would prefer that the limit was around 350, except for say, snipers, who might be able to shoot 400-450, supposing we were to implement that. My reasoning is, as hard as it is to see out of a paintball mask (for me at least), I cannot imagine how it is with gas masks. And, myself, I don't want to play a game that involves mostly head shots, and not wear a mask, due to the poor mobility of them, and get hit in the mouth, where a good pair of glasses, or even a set of goggles wont help. Just my humble opinion.
On the 'theatrics', or trench raids, why not use Nerf swords? Wal-Mart sells them, and for like $10 you can get a small, one handed sword, that is around 30" long, or for $20, a big, claymore sized whackin' stick.

I like your enthuesiasum. Must be that down under thing. Unfortunetly as you know from being in the trenchs, a head shot is about all one would see. Unless you plan on sticking your bum up over the top. Helmets and gas masks would have to be the norm, they provide the best protection. Brave lads or totally crazy ones would go without. I do agree with you on the FPS, minus the snipers, we just don't have the numbers yet to warrent their use. Your ideas are great and will definetly be discussed.

I heard somewhere that BB's would punch right through the lenses on a gasmask, i've thought about just getting regular goggles taking the lenses from the gas mask then tracing them, cut them out and replace the original lenses with the cut outs

At the moment, I think that we could use paintball masks, maybe fix them up so that they look like they are gas masks. The real ones aren't designed to stop a projectile.

One thing I have done is purchase one of the current day Russian gas masks and modify it to look like one from the Great War. There is not a plastic BB that can go through safety glass. The most questionable ones would be the Russian masks, but I took it out in the backyard and fired my MP44 at it. That WWII gun puts out over 400. Not a problem, it didn't even mark it at ten feet away. We should not be getting that close to fire at one another, the trenchs will be at least 25 yards apart.

Well first lets stick to this thread about FPS. If you read your personal PM's this will help. You have the right gun to start with as it is used for most of our base guns. Helmets are a must as seen in any photo of combat. Events, we all are working on them now. Until we have our own some are listed in Up Comming Events.

There is a company making rubber bayonet replicas so thats not a problem. No pain with those. But eye protection IS a problem...I've seen WWII re-enactments where the players use plastic clear shooting glasses. At a distance they look invisible. But FPS SHOULD be limited to around 350-385. The last think I want is a BB denting my canteen or something...
